We are obsessed with the idea of love in our culture- consider the $60 billion wedding industry, the vast genre of romance-based reality television and the dazzling social media posts of love that’s “meant to be”.

Yet… behind the curtain (or beneath the sheets), we are not nearly as obsessed with the idea of investing in love. The majority of modern couples grapple with a similar challenge- managing the constant state of busyness, demands of parenting, caring for aging parents and advancing in their careers all while staying in love.

Falling in love is easy.
 Staying in love

takes work.

When the newness, sparks and magic fade, many of us become lazy in our relationship habits. We trade shaved legs for sweats, sweet gestures for expectations, cuddles in bed for time scrolling through our phones. We become lazy in our interactions, reactive to the negative, avoid giving the benefit of the doubt and complacently overlook the positives in our relationships.

We like to think that “meant to be” is the type of love that doesn’t need work, that you’re either soulmates or you’re not. But love is not unconditional. It takes commitment, intention, ongoing pursuit of growth and evolving. If you’re wondering how to rekindle a relationship, you’re ready for the truth:

One or both of you have stopped putting in the work necessary to keep your love alive.
